Cantors lead the congregation in hymns, psalms, acclamations, and other musical responses. Ideally, a cantor should have previous singing experience, but it is not required. A cantor should also have strong music-reading and sight-singing skills, which helps to learn new material quickly. A secure advantage for a cantor is possessing a high voice (i. e. soprano, tenor) in order to be able to sing the bulk of liturgical music. All materials are supplied by the music department, scheduling is flexible and written monthly, and cantors rehearse once a month together to cover material for the upcoming month.
If you have interest in becoming a cantor for the music ministry at St. Stephen, please contact the Music Director.
